Welcome to the very first Wellness Diary! This is a new weekly series I’ve been wanting to start for a while now and I’m excited to share it with you. I know y’all always hear “new year, new me” or “my new year’s resolution is to get in shape.” And then some of us (guilty!) sign up for gym memberships, go maybe a whole two weeks in a row, and then find other things to be occupied with. Or say we’re going to eat healthy and then indulge one too many times in those dang addictive McDonald’s french fries. Every year, frustrated with myself, I vow to make the next year the year I get in shape. While I do think it’s important to love yourself and your body at any size, it’s also important (and healthy) to keep improving.
New Year, New Me?
I recently stepped on a scale for the first time in months, after dealing with high levels of stress and indulging more than I usually do. I watched as the scaled ticked up higher and higher, past where I thought I was at, to the highest it has ever been. I immediately burst into tears, knowing it was my own fault but being upset nevertheless. This was two weeks ago, and I made a vow to this time take my commitment to health and betterment seriously. My husband and I recently moved into a new place, and in our neighborhood is a yoga studio that offers yoga, pilates, barre, and cardio classes. One of my very best friends and I signed up to do weekend morning classes together. Having a partner makes workouts not only more enjoyable, but holds me more accountable (so I can’t sign up and not go!) Also if you haven’t tried barre classes yet, they are the hardest and most rewarding workout I have ever had, and I hate working out!
After a consultation with my doctor about my goals, we determined how much I need to lose in order to fall back into a healthy weight range. We came up with a diet and exercise plan, and I left feeling confident and determined for the first time in weeks.
So welcome again to the very first of the Wellness Diaries! Here, you will find weekly updates to my fitness journey as well as healthy recipes, tips and tricks for a healthier lifestyle. I hope to connect with many of you here, to learn from each other, and to become our best selves! Will you join me?
