When I was little, one of my favorite things to snack on were homemade Rice Krispie treats. One of my fondest childhood memories is making them with my dad: helping him melt the marshmallows and fold in the Rice Krispie cereal, occasionally sneaking a bite (or two!).
Rice Krispie treats are one of the easiest snacks to prepare in a pinch, and are enjoyed by people of all ages. To add a spooky twist, we whipped up a batch of these brown butter Rice Krispie treats and added white candy melt “bandages” to make them look like mummies. To finish off the look, we added two little candy eyes and voila! The perfect Halloween treat.

Brown Butter Rice Krispie Mummies
Whip up a batch of these adorably spooky Rice Krispie mummies to enjoy this Halloween!
Ingredients
- 8 oz salted butter
- 12 oz Rice Krispies cereal (1 box)
- 20 oz marshmallows (2 10-ounce packages)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp canola oil
For the Mummy Look
- 2 bags white candy melts
- 45 candy eye sprinkles
Instructions
-
In a large pot, melt the salted butter until golden brown. The browning process is important as we want this to develop the right flavors.
-
Once the butter is melted, stir in the vanilla extract.
-
On low heat, add in the marshmallows and coat them in butter by turning them with a wooden spoon. The marshmallows will begin to melt as you stir. Stir until fully melted then remove from heat.
-
Add in the Rice Krispies cereal and stir until its very sticky and blends together.
-
"Pour" the mixture into a buttered 13x9 cake pan. Using a spatula, spread the mixture around the pan.
-
Using a piece of parchment paper, press down on the mixture until it's in an even layer across the pan.
-
Let sit for one hour, then cut up into 24 equal rectangles with a buttered knife.
For the Mummy Decorations
-
Place one package of candy melts into the microwave and melt according to package instructions, or in 30 second intervals until fully melted. Stir in 1 tbsp of canola oil to thin and stir well.
-
Dip the treats into the candy melt to fully coat them.
-
Melt the remaining candy melts and fill a piping bag. Cut a hole at the bottom.
-
Starting from the top, go back and forth across the treat with the piping bag to make the bandages. Don't worry about perfection - the messier the better! When you finish piping, place two little candy eyes sprinkles near the top. Let dry for 20 minutes and enoy!
I can't wait to hear from you!
