Book of the Month Club

October 11, 2020
Book Review

Books are cool again!

Kidding, books were always cool.

If you’re like me, you’ve always had a love affair with reading. There’s something so satisfying about cracking open a new book, running your fingers through the smooth pages, and breathing in that new book smell. And reading is fun, too!

Recently, I had a friend recommend that I check out the Book of the Month club. Every month, BOTM curates five of the best new reads – with an emphasis on early releases, fresh perspectives, and debut authors – and you choose your favorite. If, for some reason, you do not like any of the options, you have the ability to choose a book offered previously; or, pick more than one! Your first month is only $9.99, and after that it’s $14.99 per month; cheaper than most individual books!

Behind on your reading list? Skip whenever or roll your credits over, no questions asked. You can do this easily through the intuitive Book of the Month app or on their website.

Benefits

When you join BOTM, you also join their BFF rewards program. Their stats keep track of how many boxes you’ve received, books you’ve read and their total number of pages, and how many months you’ve been a member. After your twelfth box, you get the free welcome tote with a special pocket for your book of the month, and a free add-on during your birthday month! Additionally, BOTM announces the five Book of the Year Finalists every winter, and you get to choose the one you want for free.

Keep Calm and Bookclub On

Books and friends are more important now than ever, so if you’re looking to get social, you can join (or create) one of their bookclubs! BOTM will help you choose reads everyone will enjoy, and deliver them to each member. All you have to do is organize the (virtual) hang.

Additional FAQs

Why should I subscribe to BOTM over buying books a la carte?

Early releases, vetted quality, and oh- they’re way cheaper. Plus, a subscription gets you excited to read, so you might actually do more of it. And that’s a good thing!

How do I know I’ll like the books you feature?

Well, they have a pretty good track record of choosing great reads that goes all the way back to 1926, so it’s worth a try for you to find out. If you don’t like your book, let them know and they’ll take care of it for you.

What if I don’t read a book every month?

Every month you’re asked if you want a book or want to skip, and the choice is entirely up to you. You’re committed to nothing, you’re allowed to skip, and you can cancel at any time without it being weird. Just call them!

What are add-ons?

They’re extra books you can add to your monthly box. If you’re into other books on their site, you can add up to two add-ons a month. Choose from current monthly selections or the top books from previous months.

What are you reading?

For October, I chose the book Circe by Madeline Miller, the 2018 Book of the Year. I’ll post a book review when I’m finished!
